Please click photo to enlarge. The tiny bugs the dragonflies are after will come into view.
Last year I wondered where all the dragonflies had gone. I'm pleased to report that they are back. A couple of nights ago, I was amazed to see the dragonflies swarming in the front yard, apparently feeding on tiny bugs that seemed to be rising from the soil. I wasn't able to get a photo that reflected the great numbers of dragonflies in the yard. They zoomed past so quickly, I felt lucky to get a few in one shot. And luckier still when they rose high enough in the air that I could photograph them against the sky!
Don't miss out on beautiful sky shots from all around the world. Visit Skywatch Friday. Thank you for taking the time to look at my photo. I appreciate it. :-)

Tina,
The photo of the dragonflies against the sky is beautiful. If you have time, drop over and see the beautiful sunset we had tonight. It is breathtaking.
Hope all is well with you.
Blessings and hugs,
Mary
Great photo shot....amazing those little dragonflies!
Off to visit more SWF sites....
The dragonflies this year are renting an airplane hanger--they are so big and plentiful!
I hope you are able to keep them. It sounds like they are born in your soil and emerge to fly away. Wow. That would be special. I hope you don't use any chemicals on the lawn area as that might destroy them before they are born and fly away.
This is one of the most special photos I have seen.

What a fun Sky Watch with dragonflies! Wonderful 'capture' ... we don't see many of them here in So Cal near the ocean.

Neat picture! They look like little airplanes!
Great photo capture Tina. I love dragonflies. I don't thik I have ever seen them swarm like that before though. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I didn't know dragonflies ate anything.Good for them!! Maybe it's mosquito's they are getting. Wouldn't that be nice?
What a terrific shot! Don't think I've ever seen a photo of multiple dragonflies AND the bugs they are after! Excellent!
Tina,
Great shot of the dragonflies...
Which reminds me, check out this Rumanian folktale about dragonflies that I read over on Granny Sue's blog:
How Dragonflies Came to Be
This is a wonderful shot of the dragonflies. I haven't seen many this year.
Hope you are having a great week!
Wow, great photo, Tina!
I have lots of dragonflies around, too. I love watching them.
Have a wonderful day, dear Tina!

Thank you, everyone, for your wonderful comments!! I really appreciate each and every one. :-)
nice photo and great catch
I thought you may have lain on your back in the wet grass to get this shot. Nice to now you didn't catch cold after all. Always lovely to catch something on the wing, especially something so small as a dragonfly. Nice job.
Nice catch...
Nicely framed up...
Love it...
