Rainy Wednesday
It's been raining all day, which should bring the pollen levels down. So far the thunderstorms predicted earlier in the week have not materialized. It's just a pleasant, somewhat cool, rainy, spring day. I love to listen to the rain and to see how it makes the greenery appear greener. It doesn't seem to bother the birds. The birdfeeders are well visited by birds and squirrels alike!
Purple finches
and Evening Grosbeaks
are some of the visitors to the front feeder. The squirrels ran away! And what a surprise when I looked out the back window to spot a turtle in the grass.
This is a good sized turtle. It's hard to judge with nothing nearby as a guide. But I took this photo from the distance of a second story window.
All in all, it's a lovely day!

Good morning Tina. We are getting rain too, in fact the forcast says we will have a full week of it. I don't get much done outside when it's wet, but I do get my housework caught up.
I love your bird feeder. My son made me a huge one many years ago. It holds a lot of seed and had a roof to keep it dry. A huge variety of birds used to come for lunch. It got old and rotted. I hope to try and make another.
I've added you to my side bar. Hope it's ok.
Have a great rest of the week.
Hello Mountain Mama!
I know what you mean about the rain. Today, I did some cooking ahead. It's supposed to get hot as the week goes on. So today seemed like a good day to get the cooking out of the way!
I hope you can make another bird feeder. I can tell you enjoy the birds like I do. It's so much fun to watch them.
Thank you for your kind words. I'm honored to be added to your sidebar! I added you to mine as well. :-)
Tina
I enjoy rainydays too. I like your bird feeder. I'll add you to my blog roll if you dont mind! Come back for a visit anytime!
I love a good rainy day,it cleanes the air and a heck of a lot better than snow! I hope that you had a great day today! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Hi Nonna,
Thank you for adding me to your blog roll. I just added you to mine. Finding new blogging buddies makes my day!
I hope you have a great day!
Tina
Mike,
You aren't kidding that rain is better than snow! Way better!!
I'm having another good day. Ihope you are too. :-)
Tina
Hi Tina,
I love your pictures! Rainy days are nice, aren't they? So now I know where the purple finches go when they leave us, in the spring. They winter here, you know. And yes, the squirrels visit the birdfeeders here as well! They can be a real pain! But I guess they have to eat, too. lol. And I love your turtle!
I always enjoy my visits here, my friend. Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Renie
Hi, Tina! Thanks for the pics! I LOVE finches! ;-) I also love hummingbirds--but I think actually hearing the whippoorwill is my favorite of all....
*smiles*
Michele
Thanks for dropping by Small Reflections recently. Your comments always brighten my day. I apologize for being slow to respond … but my life is so busy today I’m struggling to keep up and my ‘to do’ list grows longer rather than shorter each day.
I love rainy days too … (especially when my allergies are driving me nuts). I enjoyed your ‘bird’ and ‘turtle’ photos in Wednesday’s post and the swallows in the duck house in your previous post. How interesting that squirrels inhabited it a couple of years ago too. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a delightful day!
Hugs and blessings,
Tina,
Glad that you having a good spring day. No rain here, it's 12:50 and 89 degrees. No rain expected until next week but you never can tell.
ha! Squirrels hit up my feeders all the time, on one of them, they have figured out how to flip the top off, so I need to fix that. The poles have tin guards to keep them from climbing up, but it doesn't take long for them to figure out that they can swing over from a nearby tree. It's funny to watch.
Hi Renie,
I didn't know the purple finches wintered in Missouri. I knew that they head south, but not where!
I agree - squirrels can be a real pain. I've even tried compromising with them by putting out peanuts. But they still gobble down all the seeds. The peanuts don't go to waste. The blue jays like them!
I hope you are having nice calm weather and that it stays that way!
Take care, my friend. :-)
Hugs,
Tina
Hi Michele,
I've never heard a whippoorwill. I'd love to. I've never seen one, so it is on my "life list" of birds I hope to see or hear one day.
Hummingbirds are fun to watch. Until we put up feeders, I had no idea how territorial they are.
Thanks for stopping by! :-)
hugs,
Tina
Hi Storyteller,
I know what you mean about the "to do" list always getting longer. It sure can be a challenge! No need to apologize, especially not to me - the queen of slow! LOL
It's kind of funny about the squirrels in the duck house. The grown squirrels are kind of a pain with the way they eat up all the bird seed. As I mentioned in my post to Renie, I even tried compromising with them. I put out peanuts, but they still go for the seed. Their little babies are sooo cute! I wish I'd had a camera then to capture a photo of one of those little faces peeking out of the duck house entry.
I appreciate your kind words and your visits! Take care!
hugs,
Tina
Deborah,
I had to smile when I read your post about the squirrels learning to open the feeders. We have one feeder that they have learned to open so well, that sometimes we see them eating the seeds from inside the feeder!! They sure are clever.
Thanks for stopping by. It's always good to see you. I'm wishing rain for your area!
Have a great week,
Tina
Tina,
I could swear I'd posted here, but apparently not. I love the photos of your birds and the turtle is awesome.
Yes, occasionally we get tornado warnings here, but not very often. I'm not sure what happened last night it was like a tornado, but went through very quickly. It may have lasted 15 minutes. Just a severe thunderstorm with high winds, I think.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my photos. I saw a perfect photo opp there. ;-)
Blessings,
Mary
Mary,
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.
You did take good advantage of a perfect photo op! Your photos were excellent. I'm glad it wasn't a tornado that presented that opportunity.
Take care, my friend. Try not to work too hard on the apartment renovations during this horrible heat!
Hugs,
Tina
Hi Tina
I love to listen to the rain too =)
I love your photos. Never seen a purple finch. Ours are brown only here in Missouri. And the turtle. What a fun surprise.
I enjoyed my visit!
Nancy
