Finally, Deer in the Daylight!

In my December 9th post I told you about deer visiting the yard late one afternoon. I was disappointed that I wasn't able to get a decent photo due to the early sunset that left us almost in twilight. Dave installed a sensor with a bell that would ring in the house to alert us if the deer returned to the back yard.

I thought I would surely get an opportunity to take a good photo. But the days were still growing shorter. The deer would arrive at dusk, midnight, and before dawn. Usually, there were three: two larger ones and a small one. Using the nighttime binoculars, we watched the three. Occasionaly, there would be more. We never saw a "herd" because they visited late at night and in the wee hours of the morning. It could be that a couple of small groups visit throughout the night. Sometimes there are tracks coming from the driveway as well as from the woods. The high number of tracks leave no doubt that there were many more than our regular three!

Yesterday afternoon, my grandson, Zach, was in his room doing homework. Suddenly, he came running down the hallway shouting to us to go to the kitchen window - there were six deer in the woods heading towards the pond. (Since he placed his desk facing a wall, how he saw the deer while doing his homework is a mystery for another day. LOL) My son, Kevin, was here at the time, as was Keely. We all watched three of the deer walk to the far side of the pond and cross it; the other three remained in the woods. It didn't take the three long to find the deer feed buried by the new snowfall the night before. Finally, I got some fairly decent photos of the deer!

While I'm very happy with my photos, which are still a bit dark, if you want to see some excellent photos of deer, visit Renie Burghardt's World In addition to the deer in the side bar, scroll down to see the delightful photo of a deer "scratching an itch"!

Tina,

What wonderful photos of the deer. Oh how I wish that I lived in an area where deer come to visit. They are magnifient creatures.

Thanks for visiting my wacky weather post. We are having more wacky weather in the form of an ice storm.

Take care, my friend.

Hi Tina,

Great photos of deer in the snow in your yard! I love it. It's such a thrill to get a photo of them, isn't it? And thank you for mentioning my photos of deer. That is so sweet of you.

I received a new award which I haven't even posted yet, but will be posting later today, when I have more time. And I am passing this award on to three blogging friends who are a blessing. You have been a blessing to me for 10 years now, and I would love for you to have this award, my friend. Come by later today or when you have the time, and pick it up.

Have a wonderful day.

Love and Hugs,

Renie

Mary,

Thank you! I lived the first half of my life in the city. I never saw a live deer until we moved here. I do love them, even when they are eating my wild rose bush! LOL

I always enjoy visiting your blogs! And once again, my weather is playing follow the leader to your weather! Last night I heard the ice storm pinging against the windows. Today we are having a snowy day.

Hugs,
Tina

Hi Renie,

Thank you! It sure is a thrill to get some photos of the deer. I just kept clicking the button. Keely asked me why I was taking so many pictures. I explained that I was so happy to have an opportunity to get pictures in the daylight, that I thought I better take a lot in case they don't come out very well. I thought that way, I should end up with at least a couple of good ones!

I am deeply touched and honored to receive this award and that you consider my friendship a blessing. I feel the same way about you - your friendship has enriched my life. I will be over later in the day! Thank you!

Love & Hugs,
Tina

Tina, whwn we first moved into the condo that we live in we had a lot of woods behind our unit and we would see the deer night and day.
Than the statew of Ohio built a freeway extention practully in our back yard so the woods disapeared and so did the deer for the most part we still occaisionaly see deer but not like before,in a way I'm glad that they don't come around much I'd hate to see them get killed on the freeway,or even the road next to our condo's street.

Mike,

I'm sorry the deer can't visit your area anymore. I sure agree with you - it's better that they don't end up on the freeway. It would be sad to see them getting hit by cars.

Thanks for stopping by!
Tina
